Christmas Holidays

I don't think everyone should be doing school work over the break, but there are only three weeks left in the semester and some students do need to complete work that is past due.

Accounting students who have not completed ACC10 6.3 or 7.2 or the 7.3 spreadsheet, now is the time.

HEA7a and 7b should be completed the Responsibility Qs.

SCI6a could be looking ahead at our wiki project and researching pictures and text to post for your group to see.

Have a good Holiday!

Science Update

Some students still need to sign onto our class wiki. First, watch the wiki video on youtube.

Wikis in Plain English

Next goe to wikispaces.com and sign up for a new account. You'll put in a username and password (WRITE THESE DOWN AND KEEP THEM IN YOUR NOTES) as well as an email address. Don't put ANY personal information on your personal profile (full name, town, picture, etc.).

When you've signed up, it will ask you to create a new wiki. Don't. Go to the top of the page and click on My Wikis and search for "science6a."

When you find the science6a wiki, click the "Join this Wiki" button and send me a request to join (something like,, "Sign me up!") And that's all!

Science 6A

Students who did not complete the "Triangulation Problems" from last week (many were sick) can do any 2 from the handout. Just circle the given cities using your compass and the scale on the maps. Complete three circles and you find where they all meet - that is your epicenter.

Accounting 10

Our Unit Test will be Monday. Be sure you are ready to do a long question like Chapter 5 Review Exercise #7 from the text. You will work with given accounts, enter various transactions on T-Accounts, complete a Trial Balance, then an Income Statement, and finally the Equity Section of a Balance Sheet. Study well!

Health 7A and 7B

7As: Our health Unit Test will be Monday. Also, some students have not finished the "Respect Qs" handout - this is due.

7Bs: We have finished our Unit Test, but the "Respect Qs" handout is also due.

ACC10 Nov.6

If you missed our class on Spreadsheets (5.4),here is what we did:
Open Excel and name Sheet 1 "Balance Sheet" and Sheet 2 "Income Statement"
Use page 143 as your guide for the B.Sheet.
Use the same headings, accounts, and dollar figures, but number the accounts (as in the Chart of Accounts section)
Also use formulas tp get all totals , not just copying numbers.
Use page 145 as your guide for the I. Statement.
Use the same accounts (number these as well), dollar figures and put formulae in for the totals. Same as the last one.

Email to dcopp@mail.gssd.ca when you're done.

We have had many student illnesses this week as a result of the H1N1 flu. If students are sick, they should stay home to avoid spreading illness, and please note the information and clinic info listed on the Sunrise Health Region homepage.

Mid-Term Reports - All Classes

All marks are now recorded for out mid-terms. If any work has not yet been received, a zero will be given to that item. I will still accept and mark late work without penalty, but I think we are all aware that when January arrives there will be no second chances for missed assignments. Please try to keep up with what work is given and we will not run the risk of zeros damaging your mark.

ACC10: Mid-Term marks include all assignments and tests for the first 3 units, but there is too much weight currently assigned to Unit 4 assignment ('Homework Check'). Since it is the only item for the Unit as marks are sent in, it alone accounts for 25% of the report card grade. This anomaly will work itself out as more items are turned in and the unit is completed.

SCI6A: All work from our first unit ('Matter and Reactions') is recorded and part of your mid-term mark. Keep diagrams and the test for Parent-Teacher interviews. We have started a new unit on 'Earthquakes and Volcanoes'.

HEA7A and 7B: All work from the first unit ('Entering the Teen Years') is included in the mid-term mark. The Unit Test is not. The inclusion of this test mark will happen as soon as all students have written it. Since Health runs year-long, this mid-term report covers only about 25% of our material for the year. Our new Unit is 'Your Health and Wellness'.

For all classes, monthly Markbooks will continue to be sent home with students. Parents, please let me know if you would like these emailed to you instead of being sent by hand.

Accounting 10, October 21st

Today we will complete any outstanding computer work since mid-term reports are coming out soon! You have the following computer assignments done or in the works: a WebQuest, Stock Market Data sheet, and 3 different spreadsheets (2.5, 3.4 and 4.5). If it is possible complete ALL these assignments today. More detailed instructions can be found on previous Accounting 10 blog entries.

When they are complete, you can do some bonus work related to the Economy. Pick any one story from the following links and write a brief report on it. Your report will include:

What is the story about?

Who are the main actors in it?

What is the possible effect (on whom, and what)?

Visit Macleans, CBC.ca, or the Globe and Mail.

Your report should be about a 1/2 page long, but take time in finding a story that interests you, that you can understand, and be sure that it relates to the Economy!

Do some research on the electric car movement in Canada and the US. Find the link below, read the article and take notes. You will write about whether you think electric cars will be popular soon. Is the technology ready to take over the market from gas-burning cars? Would you invest in a company that makes electric cars (like ZENN)?

Here's the link.
